Inside the Migration Framework

Project Scope & Challenges

Modernization of a 20+ year Commission and Rewards System spanning eight DB2 databases, approximately 1,400 inventoried source tables and 400 selected for migration to a substantially different PostgreSQL data model.

Snapshot & CDC Integration

Debezium and Kafka captured initial snapshots and ongoing DB2 changes into PostgreSQL staging. Segmented CDC processing enabled controlled migration, restart and recovery without repeating the initial data load.

Data Transformation & Migration Framework

A metadata-driven framework combined automated configuration, Apache Spark and Scala transformations, complex multi-table joins and controlled loading into the new PostgreSQL data model.

Testing, Validation & Recovery

The migration framework was tested through end-to-end workflows, data reconciliation, transformation validation and restart/recovery scenarios. The project team prepared and handed over the framework for client-managed production execution.
